Mix a small amount of the mask (about ½ a tbsp.) with about ½ tsp of water, milk, and hydrosol, one of our toners or herbal tea until you create a thick paste. Add more liquid if necessary. It is recommended to start with less liquid than you think you need, and then add more as needed. Apply paste to clean face and let dry (10-15 minutes). Remove by rinsing with warm water. Follow by cleansing the skin with one of our toners and a cotton pad. Finish with a facial oil or balm. For best results, use after an herbal steam.
For dry skin: Try mixing with honey, milk, rose water, rose/chamomile tea or our Rose Hydrating Toner
For combination/oily skin: Try mixing with honey, green tea, diluted apple cider vinegar, witch hazel hydrosol, orange blossom water, or our Neroli Clarifying Toner.
Masking is not just about skin care, it is also about self-care. Before mixing your mask, take a moment to prepare your space for comfort. Dress in some comfy yet pretty clothes, or prepare a warm bath with minerals and hydrating coconut milk. Settle in with some tea and a good book, soak in the bath, or take an extra-long shower. Take this moment, while the mask is working, to decompress and be in the moment. Take a few deep breaths, and thank yourself for taking the time to take care of you.
Activated Charcoal //
This is a charcoal that has been treated with oxygen which creates more active regions to chemically bind with impurities (hence it is called “activated” charcoal!). When applied topically, activated charcoal binds to dirt, oil and toxins, detoxifying the skin. Great for facial cleansers and masks that target cleansing the pores to prevent break outs.
Hibiscus Flowers //
Called the “natural botox plant” because if its firming and lifting properties, hibiscus is high is natural alpha-hydroxy acids. AHAs exfoliate, promote cell renewal, help prevent acne breakouts, increase moisture content, and improve elasticity. Hibiscus is also high in water-soluble antioxidants and vitamin C, which help fight off damage-causing free-radicals, reduce inflammation, and promote a healthy complexion.
French Green Clay //
Mined from bedrock quarries in France, this clay is untreated, sun dried and 100% natural. It contains tons of beneficial minerals, including silica, magnesium, calcium, iron, and montmorillonite. Our founder Dominique first was introduced to the clay when she spent a few months in France working on organic farms. Called argile by the locals and thought to have an amazing ability to absorb toxins and impurities, she saw that it worked wonders when ingested for stomach aches, soothed sores and wounds when applied topically, and worked really well as a mask for skincare.
Rose Petals //
Rose petals are synonymous with love, and when found in skincare products with anti-aging. You might be wondering, is rose worth all the hype? A Korean study recently found that rose petals actually help block age-causing enzyme activity and also helps your skin absorb vitamin C (a great anti-aging ingredient itself). So go ahead, indulge in a little rose!
Chamomile Flowers //
Chamomile is a small white and yellow flower that is high in flavonoids, terpenoids, oxides, and azulenes (chamazulene is what gives the essential oil its beautiful blue color). It has antioxidant, antimicrobial, and antibacterial effects. It is a powerful skin healing and anti-inflammatory herb.
Willow Bark //
Willow bark contains salicin, a chemical used by our bodies to create salicylic acid. Topical application of salicin has been shown to help reduce the visible signs of aging and keeps “youth” genes in gear. Salicin also gently exfoliates, promoting cell renewal and reducing the occurrence of acne breakouts. It is also an antioxidant and an antimicrobial.
