NATURAL WAYS OF TREATING ACNE: PART 3 (MANAGING OUR SKIN’S MICROBIOME)

NATURAL WAYS OF TREATING ACNE: PART 3 (MANAGING OUR SKIN’S MICROBIOME)

Did you know that there is a relationship between your skin’s overall health and the state of of its microbiome (aka flora)?  Similar to how our gut flora aids in our digestion and affects our overall health, our skin’s microbiome has a significant effect on our skin’s health, including the prevalence (or absence) of acne.
INGREDIENT HIGHLIGHT: ROSE AND ROSE WATER SKIN BENEFITS

INGREDIENT HIGHLIGHT: ROSE AND ROSE WATER SKIN BENEFITS

Rose is synonymous with love but to me rose is much more than that! It is vibrant, sexy, enlivening, and it is a skin savior.  Rose is used in many forms in both skincare and aromatherapy.  You can use rose as fresh petals, rose essential oil, rose absolute, rose petal powder and rose water.  Here are some of my favorite forms of rose and why I incorporate them in so many of our skincare products!
DOING AN HERBAL STEAM AS A COLD REMEDY

DOING AN HERBAL STEAM AS A COLD REMEDY

Winter is upon us which also means cold season is here. I have many tricks I like to use to get over a cold quickly, which includes drinking homemade elderberry tea and eating tons of cooked mushrooms.  These forms of nourishment help my body fight off infection, but they don't do much to ease the symptoms. For the stuffy nose and sore throat, I love to do a daily steam.

INGREDIENT HIGHLIGHT: ROSEHIPS AND THE VITAMIN C MYTH

Rosehip oil is probably one of my favorite skincare ingredients but there is one big misconception about it: it does not contain vitamin C.  Yep, you read that right, rosehip oil does not contain vitamin C.  Let's take a closer look at rosehips and rosehip oil to find out why I use this amazing plant in my products and why I love making a tincture every fall with fresh hips!

BOTANICAL RECIPE: ICED TULSI CHAI TEA

BOTANICAL RECIPE: ICED TULSI CHAI TEA

I absolutely love iced coffees, but sometimes it’s nice to have a cold drink that’s not so caffeinated. My sister Dominique tuned me in to Tulsi, which has a nice earthy body to it and holds its own as an iced drink.

It turns out that the Tulsi herb (also known as Holy Basil) is also pretty good for you.Tulsi is a good source of magnesium, which is an important mineral for heart health. Tulsi is also known as a stress fighter since it could help your body to maintain normal level of cortisol and help lower inflammation.

HEALING HERBS TO GROW

HEALING HERBS TO GROW

Living in a city or an apartment can make it difficult to grow plants outdoors, luckily there are some plants that can be grown indoors that you wouldn’t expect (and we are not talking about succulents!) Preferably, plants like to be outside in their wilderness but they can adapt easily, if correctly nurtured for. Especially when growing herbs that also have healing properties, you can create wonderful teas, tinctures and even healing salves. Here is a break down of a few herbs you can grow indoors or out:

DE-STRESS: WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I DID AN HERBAL STEAM

DE-STRESS: WHAT HAPPENED WHEN I DID AN HERBAL STEAM

Busy used to be the measure of success. See also hustling. The pendulum is swinging back in the other direction, as more often we’re hearing about the Holy Grail of the work life balance.

I am trying to deprogram myself from the rise and grind mindset. Waking up and looking at my phone with one eye open, heart racing from the number of emails, or lack thereof, is no way to live.
